The Perth Golf Network 'South West League' aims to provide competition golf in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere across a variety of courses in the South West. PGN are now offering Foundation memberships and regular competitions in our brand new South West League.

Upon joining you will receive a welcome email with all the information as well as a log in details for our members portal. This will allow you the ability to book all your PGN and South West League Competitions in.

Key Points:

Online bookings can be made 14 days prior, and you will receive a confirmation email once your registration is complete.
You can also view the schedule of upcoming competitions and see if spots are still available before you register.
Online bookings are the quickest and most efficient way to register for our weekly competitions and Special Events
You'll need to add points to your account ($1 = 1pt) and a competition fee of 10pts will be used to secure your spot. Guests can also be added with their spot secured following payment of the comp fee. If you have not paid and the booking times out you will lose your reservation.
When booking Special Events, the green fee and competition fee must be paid at the time of booking.

on the day

Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to tee-off and find the PGN representative running the comp.

To ensure that all players get a chance to play, groups will be required to tee-off on time with no exceptions!

It is imperative that you call the pro shop or PGN staff member running the day if you are running late or need to cancel.

This will allow players searching for a game at late notice an opportunity to play in the competition.

stableford

Stableford is a golf scoring system that is based on the number of strokes taken at each hole, rather than the total number of strokes taken for the entire round. The objective is to achieve the highest number of points by the end of the round. In this format, golfers are awarded points based on their score relative to par, rather than their total score.

In a Stableford competition, the number of strokes a golfer is allowed to take is based on their handicap. A golfer's handicap is a numerical measure of their playing ability, with a lower handicap indicating a more skilled golfer. This handicap is used to adjust the number of strokes a golfer is allowed to take on each hole.

Points are awarded based on the number of strokes taken at each hole, with a certain number of points awarded for a bogey, par, birdie and an eagle. For example, a bogey might be worth one point, a par worth two points, a birdie worth three points, and an eagle worth four points. If a golfer takes more strokes than the established number of strokes for a hole (based on their handicap), they may get no points or even lose points.

This format is designed to encourage aggressive play and reward golfers who take risks. The Stableford format also allows players to keep playing even if they fall behind, since they can still earn points. It is a popular format for golfers of all skill levels and it is played in both individual and team competitions.

Ambrose

Ambrose (also known as a "best-shot" or "Scramble" format) is a format typically played by teams of two to four players. In this format, each player hits a tee shot, and then the team decides which shot is the best to play from. All players then play their next shots from that spot. This process is repeated until the ball is holed. The team's score for the hole is the total number of strokes taken by the team.

Ambrose is a fun format because it encourages teamwork and camaraderie among players. It allows players of different skill levels to play together, as the team can choose the best shot to play from. Additionally, it can help speed up play as the team can select the best ball placement and move on to the next shot, rather than each player hitting from their own spot. The format also helps to level the playing field for players with different abilities, and it can be a great way for beginners to learn from more experienced players. Additionally, Ambrose format can also be a great way to have fun and socialize with friends or colleagues while enjoying the game of golf.

match play

Match play is a format of golf where players or teams compete against each other hole-by-hole, rather than trying to achieve the lowest overall score. The player or team that wins the most holes wins the match.

In match play, each hole is considered a separate contest, and the golfer or team who completes the hole in the fewest strokes wins the hole. If a golfer or team is ahead by a certain number of holes, the match is said to be "dormie" and if they win the next hole, they win the match, regardless of how many holes remain. If the match is tied after all holes have been played, it is said to be "all square" and an extra hole, or holes, are played until one golfer or team wins a hole.

Match play is popular in tournament golf and is the format used in the Ryder Cup and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. It is also a common format used in club and charity events. The format can be a great way to add excitement and a competitive edge to golf, as each hole is a separate battle, and players must adjust their strategy accordingly.

stroke

Stroke play is the most common format of golf, in which the objective is to complete a set number of holes (usually 18) in the fewest number of strokes. Each stroke taken on a hole counts towards the player's score, and at the end of the round, the golfer with the lowest total score is the winner.

In stroke play, every player plays every hole and the score for each hole is added to the player's total score. The player with the lowest total score is the winner. If there is a tie, a playoff or sudden-death format is used to determine the winner.

Unlike match play, where the objective is to win the most holes, stroke play is focused on achieving the lowest overall score. This requires a different approach and strategy, as golfers must take into account factors such as course layout, weather conditions, and their own abilities when planning their shots.

Stroke play is used in most professional tournaments, including the major championships and most PGA Tour events. It is also the format used in most amateur tournaments and club competitions. The format allows for a fair and accurate assessment of a player's skill and allows for comparison between players of different abilities.

Why choose a Golf Australia handicap?

A Golf Australia handicap is the most recognised in Australia.

How do I obtain an official GA handicap?

To obtain a GA handicap you must submit three 18 hole stroke cards which can be done using the Miscore App if registered in one of our comps or using a paper card which must be marked and signed by a member already with Golflink or a PGN member. Once you have forwarded your 3 cards to our staff you will then be allocated your official handicap.

Which events can I play in with a GA handicap?

You are eligible to play in all PGN events which are displayed on our events calendar on our website. You are also eligible to play in GA sanctioned events such as the state amateur and many private club events such as Summer cups etc as well as ambrose events such as the PGA Scramble. You will need to check with individual courses on the eligibility to enter certain events.

What is Slope Rating/Scratch Rating?

The Slope Rating is a measure of how much the difficulty of a course increases for the handicap golfer. The Slope Rating determines how many handicap strokes you get from a specific set of tees. The Scratch Rating is what your score is compared against when it’s processed for handicapping.

Do I need to play in an official competition to get my handicap updated?

Yes. At this stage you must play in an official competition to get your handicap updated. Golf Australia is currently in discussions about this aspect of handicapping so stay tuned for more info.

How are the PGN events run?

For normal club comp days you book your own tee time. Arrive 20 mins before tee off. You will see a PGN representative who will assist you with any questions and help to join you with other players. You then pay your green fee to the Pro-shop. The MiScore App is used for scoring and submitting your score. If you choose to use a paper card you must send a photo of you completed scorecard to the PGN staff member running the comp. All results will be posted to the website by 9pm that evening and your handicap will be adjusted accordingly.

I am a single player and don’t have a regular group to play with?

PGN is designed for single and group players. If you are a single simply book in at your preferred tee time and either others will join you or you will be matched to an existing group.

How can I check my handicap?

Simply go to www.golflink.com.au type in your GolfLink number and your current handicap will be displayed or click the tab on our website.

Speed of Play
To ensure that all players are able to complete their rounds we need to set a maximum time of 4 hours and 15 minutes for each round. This should be ample time for a group of four players to complete the course and equates to just under 15 minutes per hole. It is the responsibility of the player with the lowest handicap in the playing group to make sure you are running on time.

Motorised Carts
It is imperative that Perth Golf Network Members do not break the Golf Course rules with regard to where the carts can go. Carts should remain within the marked cart areas and should NOT be driven onto tee boxes, through deep rough, or close to the greens under any circumstance. As a new club it is vital that our reputation as a playing group remain positive. Any one breaking the rules may risk being banned from playing on the golf course as per the course rules.

Please ensure that players in the group in front are out of reach before playing your shot.

Competitions & Scoring

MiScore Scoring App

In all PGN competitions we encourage the use of the MiScore App to keep track of your score and submit once you have finished your round. The MiScore App can also be used to check the live Leaderboard and access the members portal to book your next round.

If you choose not to use the app you must fill out a paper card following to guidelines below and send a photo of your completed card to the PGN staff member running the comp.

Your Scorecard
Please ensure that your scorecard includes the following information:

Player and Partner’s full name and handicap
The competition date
Both players signatures at the end of the round
Your results posted in the box on the top right hand side of the scorecard

Upon completion please send a photo to the PGN staff member running the competition for the day.

Entering Competitions

Typically there will be a PGN staff member on hand to assist you with your competition entry and inform you of your daily handicap for the day. Any vouchers or prizes won on the day will be uploaded into your members account and can be used to purchase pro-shop merchandise, special events or any other items within our online shop.

Competitions are held on Mondays at Kwinana, Hamersley, Gosnells & Joondalup, Tuesdays at Collier Park, Marri Park, Wanneroo & Maylands. Wednesdays at Wembley, Sun City, Rockingham & Whaleback. Thursdays at The Vines & Maylands, Fridays at Kwinana, Wanneroo, Carramar & Hartfield, Saturdays at Whaleback & Marangaroo plus Cupra Cups at various courses, Sundays at Maylands, Meadow Springs & Sea View plus Pop-Up comps across the city. In the event of a public holiday some of the competitions will be cancelled (please check newsletters for updates) Perth Golf Network plays three different forms of competition stroke, stableford and par.

Handicapping System
The results of every scorecard will be used to calculate an official handicap for each player (all scores must be received upon completion of play). Players will need to submit 3 scorecards to receive a handicap. Men’s maximum handicap is 45, Women's is 54.

Prizes & Results

Weekly Competitions
Due to the wide spread in available tee times there is no daily prize ceremony. All results are posted on the Perth Golf Network website on the night of the competition. Any prizes you win will be uploaded into your members account where they can accumulate. These can be used to purchase a variety of items in our shop including pro-shop vouchers, special events and more.

ON course policies

Membership Eligibility

Membership in the Perth Golf Network is open to individuals residing in Western Australia. Members will be required to provide their date of birth at the time of application and proof of age may be requested when seeking to receive Membership benefits. To be a Member, the Member must have a valid email address and Perth Golf Network Membership can only be held by an individual. Membership is not open to families, groups, companies, trusts, partnerships, other entities, government departments or agencies. Individual employees of a corporation or other entity can be enrolled as individual members.

GST

Perth Golf Network prices are displayed with GST inclusive. All prices are in Australian Dollars.

Tax Invoice/Receipt

At the end of the payment process you will be emailed a tax invoice/receipt. This invoice can be printed for your reference. If you have provided us with an email address, you will also be sent an e-mail confirming the transaction as soon as your membership process is complete. The email typically includes the tax invoice as an attachment.

Credit Card

You can enter your entire credit card number via our secure server, which encrypts all submitted information. In the event of unauthorised use of your credit card, you must notify your credit card provider in accordance with its reporting requirements. Perth Golf Network will not be liable for unauthorised credit card use.

Security

This Web site is secured with a Web Server Certificate. Transactions on the site are protected with up to 256-bit Secure Sockets Layer encryption.

No Warranties

This website may be accessed throughout Australia and overseas. Perth Golf Network makes no representation that the material on this website complies with the laws of any country outside Australia. Vouchers

All vouchers won during PGN competitions are valid for use by financial members on any products within our shop. Any non financial members vouchers will be expired 28 days after their membership has lapsed.

By renewing your membership through this website you accept that any disputes that may arise resulting from your on-line renewal shall be governed by the courts having jurisdiction in the State of Western Australia in Australia in accordance with the laws in force in the State of Western Australia in Australia.
